At Project Soar, we believe that empowered girls lead to empowered women, able to lift up their families, their communities, and ultimately their nations.
Project Soar is unique because it is an initiative dedicated to empowering teen girls to become leaders of today and tomorrow, leaders who are activated, concerned, and powerful voices for inclusion and democracy.

Where we work
soar morocco
Project Soar was established in Morocco in 2015. In 2016, we packaged our work into a replicable, scalable system, called Soar in a Box which provides Soar Facilitators with all the tools they need to empower “squads” of teen girls, leading them through a 25 workshop, 50+ hour curriculum over the course of an academic year. We are now working in 28 sites in Morocco with over 600 Soar Girls this year.
Soar Syria
With support from the Swedish Postcode Foundation, we are currently piloting Girls Soar in Syria (GSS) with 3 partner CSOs in Syria. We conducted research to adapt Soar in a Box to the specific needs of IDP girls in Syria.
soar uganda
With support from the Perrault Foundation, we expanded to Uganda in 2019 with partner organization Open Space Centre at 5 schools in Kampala, Uganda. 132 Soar Girls have graduated the program.
Soar
Clubs
Soar Girls graduate into a Soar Club where they practice the leadership skills they have learned. These clubs are girl-led, with elected officers.
The Soar Club is a girl-led club designed to motivate Soar Girls to lead sustainable action in their communities, enhance the leadership skills they learned through the Soar workshops, and help program graduates stay connected and supportive of each other in their communities.
During the launch year of the clubs, the Soar Facilitator mentors the clubs with the help of a Soar Club Toolkit. After that the girls are able to run the clubs entirely on their own, continuing the virtuous girl-led cycle.

Dialogues
Empowered Girls Dialogue (EGD) is a collaborative project with Crossing Borders, funded by Civil Society in Development (CISU). The goal of EGD is to contribute to the improvement of teen Girls’ rights, and impact detrimental practices against Girls, such as sexual harassment, early school drop out, and forced early marriage.
Through EGD Soar Girls and Facilitators are trained engage with community stakeholders and lead discussions on topics they deem important.
By planning and leading these dialogues, girls become young leaders and change makers on key matters in their communities.

BIGGER
Movement
Funded by Civil Society in Development (CISU) and Civil Connections, in collaboration with Rabat-based advocacy group Mobilizing for Rights Associates (MRA), the Building a Greater Girls’ Rights Movement (BIGGER Movement) is training and mobilizing at risk teen girls to lobby policy makers and stakeholders for modifications of Articles 20 and 21 of the Family Code that allow for child marriage.
In the last 18 years, the rate of girl brides has dramatically increased in Morocco, proving that the Family Code is not adequately protecting its children from this damaging practice. Currently nearly 1 in 7 girls marry underage.
Through BIGGER girls receive advocacy training to equip them with the skills to engage policymakers and act as community catalysts for change to mobilize against child marriage. Girls will take a series of trips to Rabat to put forward specific amendments to the Family Code to close legal loopholes to child marriage.
